I was curious to see who's on his blogroll for SEO Tips: Search Engine Weblog
This post is a hodge-podge of issues further justifying my past points, but I'll just share the main "new" points below:

1. ) How Loyal are your Blog Readers?

The study also found that 67.3% of the respondents follow links to learn about new blogs while 22.9% of the readers rely upon recommendations on blogs. This number is greater than those who simply find a blog via a search engine (19.9%).

In order for a weblog to be a hit in the blogosphere, the study noted that it should be well-written and focused on specific topic.

2.) Things a SEO Consultant should do.

There's a comprehensive list, but it all winds down to Numero-Uno:

1) Understanding Client's Business Objectives & Strategic Marketing Plan. But I think the most important is task#1. It is always necessary to understand what the client's business objectives are. Is it for branding, for lead development, for selling products..etc.

Whether related, or not, when it comes to business opportunities, I share everything with her...so she keeps in the back of her mind how the little pieces fit the whole. 3.) New School SEO Opportunities:

[We're just starting out sistahs! So don't be bummed out with all these "new school SEO opportunities". I wasn't "really" into all the ideas prior to this post. But, now seeing its SEO implications, I'll have to rethink unveiling some of these tactics within this upcoming year...what do you think?!

a. Social Media Marketing (SMM). The technique is to delve deeper to what social communities are searching for and applying it to the website for better SEO results and web traffic.

b. Video promotion. Insert your url as a watermark in some online video websites like YouTube. The simple effort could mean more.

[There's so much room for your imagination! The ideas are endless. I particularly like the use of a PowerPoint presentation to make a slideshow of your main points.]

c. Onebox optimization. There is a good opportunity for websites to make it to the top of the SERPS and other online search niche areas using onebox optimization.

[Never heard of this...so, like my other examples, I checked Wikipedia.org found nothing...then, Yes, I did a "search" and found: The OneBoxer.com
Here's a beginners video (~5 mins...I didn't really time it).

Sweet! This is good for Product Sales only. So, I looked at keyword searches for my book...and, I noticed each book is a member of Google Books...I am too, but I haven't sent them a copy of my book yet to scan and post. On my "to do" list now!]

d. Society participation. Find a forte and become increasingly developing in that field. Bear in mind that credibility is not a commodity hence; the more you should value it.
[Due to health limitations, I'm forced to follow my own advice...so valuing my brand "empowerment" is dear to my heart...family and life in general. I will not jepordize this, nor do I recommend any of you should. Practice what you preach and admit when you are wrong. Honesty and humility goes a long way to keeping you "human" during your entrepreneurial ventures.]

e. Execute your own ideas. Concepts, ideas and innovations may just be floating on your mind. Never disregard them.
[Yes. I think I got this one down-pat to at least keep us on our toes for the next six-months! I'm so excited!]

4.) 5 Guaranteed Ways to Develop Quality SEO

a. Concentrate on your readers. One problem with keyword SEO services is the repetition of words that they lose the readability factor. When you write, consider both the readers and SEO. You can cater to both so why compromise?
b. Avoid using misspelled keywords. Though, there is the fat finger principle, preclude from using misspelled and intolerable words.
c. Proofread your articles. Be sure that elite keywords SEO are appropriately used so as not to confuse readers.
d. To make it easy for your online readers use headings and bullets in your keyword articles.
e. Make your articles relevant to your SEO keywords.

6.) Search Engine Visibility Stripped

The fact is obvious: if your website does not show up on the first 3 pages of a search query, you won't be yielding any traffic for that particular search. If your website is like that, it means you have low search engine visibility.

Another fact is that 80% of the web traffic goes to those on the first half of the natural search engine results on the first page. A recent study on Google found that searchers spend more time looking at natural search results compared to paid ones. Only 38% of the clicks generated were on sponsored or paid results.

Moreover, engine ranking search visibility is crucial to lure more web visitors. To improve visibility, excellent web site search engine optimization is necessary. Search engine rankings are important in the sense it give website owners to take advantage of the search engine rankings.

After reviewing, researching and asking the experiences of Tag Cloud users, I've decided on Ultimate Tag Warrior 3.

Ultimate Tag Warrior (UTW) is an internal tagging that keeps people on the site and boosts SEO. As stated on their homepage:

Ultimate Tag Warrior is a multi-headed hydra of a plugin. It allows you to add tags either through the Write Post page in wordpress in a tag box, on posts using an AJAXy box, and in posts using special syntax from external editors (or internally, if you’d like). From the write post page, you can also get suggestions for tags using the Yahoo! keyword suggestion service.Once you’ve got your tags entered; you enter a realm of interesting ways of doing things with your tags. At the complicated end, AJAXy search is included with the download (it may need some customisation to match your theme). I'm debating this issue:

How to: Automate the bookmarking of your website pages/blogposts, without spamming!

AutoSocialPoster.com comes highly recommended by my dear colleagues and friends from AdvancedBusinessBlogging.com

John-Paul shares:

How cool is that!?

BUT...

Here's my thing: previously, especially when I started back online on Jan. 19th, every blogpost with Technorati Tags got better traffic than the posts without them.

And, then...

I found out, just yesterday, by accident (as time is very limited) that I have Incredible Technorati rankings, based on all the backlinks created from my blog to other blogs...and I've done Nothing--nada, not one good Technorati Tag on ANY of my last marathon of mutliple posts!

So, I'm sooo perplexed? I'm not that well-read on how to interpret my FeedBurner traffic reports...but I've seen a Surge in Technorati coming by my blog!

Things that make ya' go hmm...

1. If you use AutoSocialPoster.com have have success, Pleazzzz comment below.

2. If you understand how and why the Technorati Tag jig goes up and down here at my blog, pleazzzz share some insights below. Do I continue what I'm doing? Without individual tags per posts? I don't think so...but, how can I automate this process? For free OR Fee.

And, if you haven't figure it out yet, my domain, sub-domain problems is casuing me *not* to have a homepage right now...which Rots--Big Time!

I hope Thirdsphere.com works this knick out soon, because I have a schedule...and I'm a Big-Fan of their e-commerce package. I wouldn't want to have any reason to think otherwise...

So, today's SEO tip: Technorati Tags, to automate and how? Suggestions solicited...

[Updated 3/12/07: It's not only Technorati Tags that are important...its the whole social bookmarking process. This term and process, I'm still trying to understand better. Now, with a little clarity, I know why AutoSocialPoster.com is so great! There are so many social bookmarking networks or websites, and although I was curious about Technorati Tags...that's just one place. The most popular sites for example are: Del.icio.us and Digg.com

Anyways, we'd have to manually bookmark each blogpost to every other social bookmark site so the spiders come to us. Or wait for someone to "bookmark" it and share it with others; so each of those sites will come out and "share" your post with others. Phew!

Yes, we have to sign-up for all the social bookmarking sites...that's Step #1, but getting it read...hmmm...Still hoping for more clarification, anyone!?]

Republishing RSS Feeds/Blogging on Limited Time

As I prepare to relaunch this website/blog...my time is stretch! Yet, my success online so far has come SOLELY from blogging, commenting on other blogs, and developing relationships with these bloggers.

As W.E. (women entreprneurs) Always need a shot of SEO techniques...I started this marathon and won't stop til the 15th comes to pass.

I know I do *not* want to lose valutable posting and commenting time, as well as reading other blogs and fueling my knowledge to help us to maintain the great momentum we got going...its the same situation with Wendy's growing your blog too big concerns...

Then, Bam!

Lynette offers her Blogging on Limited Time Four Tips -- 2 we didn't discuss in either of Wendy's post today or yesterday, and honestly I didn't even know possible!

Wendy and I have been chatting a TON about outsourcing but although we talk off-blog, we're also commenting and posting nearly everywhere, multiple times a day!

Lynette's Four Totally Rockin' Tips Are:

1. Team blogging with scheduled assignments, consistent rhythm of your co-authors...I've seen this work very nicely at other blogs. (Also Guest Blogging is obviously great.)

2. Freely Republish RSS Feeds. She describes how you can Syndicate RSS feeds for other pages besides blogs, such as your articles page.

This is an awesome idea for our articles' pages. She recommends distributing this particular feed to the editors in your niche market! Phew! That'll save me a few emails each month.

3. Short audioposts that could ultimatey turn into a podcast.

4. Automate your blog with a schedule. You can autopilot some posts almost like an autoresponder. This is totally sweet, isn't it!?

I'm so glad Lynette and I share a InternetMarketingChic between us, so I know the work can be done with ease and efficiency!

I highly recommend Jen...oh, but pleazzzz wait 'til after the 15th...just kiddin :-)

I've only submitted to before EzineArticles.com.
Read or listen to my endorsement here.

We're doing the top 3 article directories on this list, and 2 article directories in my target market.

2.) Distribute articles to editors list of websites, blogs, and magazines via email. I have at least a dozen new ones to share...they're so empowering, I shake when I read them myself ;-)

3.) Of course all those new articles will be posted here on this website/blog.

[Updated: 3/10/07: A colleague just called me a "writing machine", as I still find time to write these posts, prepare all the articles for the relaunch, and guest posts elsewhere.

I find it timely, to find Brian's post: There's Never Been a Better Time to Be a Business-Savvy Writer. He shares " Some people have incredible business savvy, and are focused squarely on angles that make money. Other people are great at research and writing. If you’re one and not the other, find someone with the other skill set and partner up."

Why is article submission and distribution are a critical Search Engine Optimization/SEO technique?

And, what's critical of us doing it right now, one week before the relaunch is that all new articles remain on the main page of each directory as they come it. They have my website links, subscribe to my ezine and visit my blog to see, and read and eagerly await the relaunch themselves.

Here's an easy-to-implement-right-now SEO dream come true:

How to get a subscribe feed up for your blog and bookmark for most it not all social marketing websites.

Thanks to John's post, there are only two tiny little widgets to get the job done. I, will, however keep my big orange button too, but rather than listing dozens and dozens of tabs on the column...and places a huge long line of bookmark links at the bottom of each post, these 2 widgets suits me well.

Honestly...all these colors in and of itself will not "fit" well with my new color scheme ;-(

I honestly don't know how many Parts this Search Engine Optimization/SEO Tips will have, but all I know is this is ALL that I am doing for the next (yikes) 6 days until the relaunch of this website/blog.

Therefore, I will share what's on my table for the day, and as we implement the changes together...we can watch our traffic increase, our search engine rankings hit, stay, or remain high, and hopefully increase our Google PageRank(I'm starting at 4) and alexa ranking (I had none until Tuesday) in the process.

Well, let's work on this one together. As I put up my static pages, this is something I *have* to do. He recommends (I know) image tags when appropriate. Fortunately, the new site will be mainly text. So, hopefully this will be a little task.

She talks in my tone, voice and mostly I appreciate her confident-authoritative manner. She shares *great* insights about "reciprocal" links. Oh...I can go on about this one...maybe that's Part Two for SEO.

3.) The Budget Webmaster’s 6 Step Guide to Improving Existing Rankings in Google

Now, all these tips and tools are available for free: so w.e. (women entrepreneur) can afford...I'm doing a quick run and sadly we're non-existent. I have to read this *very* carefully.

This is an area, I too will need some help from my SEO-chick.
Whatever details I find out, I'll share, of course. Then, again...if you figure something out please share below.

4.) 20 Totally Easy Ways To Get People To Link To Your Web Site
Phew! I'm doing a ton of these things already (article directories, testimonials, advice), or implementing (free eproduct) them for the 15th.

There's some really creative ones though! A contest link, a directory...hmm. Oh, I like this article a ton! The only exception would be joining a web ring. I never have and been recommended not too.

Please share below which ones you do, and which ones have worked the best.

5.) Beyond search engines

I do a ton of these too...again, articles, viral marketing. I use local columns, and press releases to get me coverage in media with my domain name listed in place of running an ad...I'm too cheap. Why pay if I can get it for free?

I’m a firm believer in giving, giving, giving…I give so much away for free, but the pay back in affiliate income, book sales, quality JVs (joint ventures) etc. is well-worth this initial start-up phase for you.

Remember, Wendy you didn’t even have your 1st year anniversary…a start-up entrepreneur is considered a business owner when you sustained and became profitable in your 43rd month.

You are FAR ahead of schedule.

4. As for local media and diversifying your internet marketing techniques. This is an area you know your falling short, and rightly so–you’ve dedicated yourself to building this prosperous blog, you had no time to dedicate elsewhere. It’s okay!

What’s great is, while your veturing into Internet Marketing, Public Relations, SEO/M techniques and discussing your experiences, successes and headaches, your Google Ads will change to higher-priced clicks, and in turn be more profitable for you.

I know all the editors personally and professionally of all the local newspapers, free periodicals, etc. in the Greater Toledo area (1) because I’m a freelance writer and (2) I’m an active PR chick. I’m in the media all the time, I’m called as an Expert opinion, yadda yadda…and everything I do is duplicable and easy-to-do.

In time, you too will be!

Here are some quick empowering news coverage of home-based women entrepreneurs and mompreneurs for today:

Business owners increasingly opt to stay at home

Census figures show that 56 percent of home-based businesses are run by women, and organizations such as the Association of Home-Based Working Moms are helping to increase those numbers.

Lesley Spencer Pyle, founder of the organization, said women are lured to home-based businesses because of the flexibility it provides new mothers and those looking to spend more time with their children.

Ranks of ‘mompreneurs’ growing in Canada.

“Women are saying they want to have more control over how much time they spend with their families,” Kathryn Bechthold, founder of the Calgary-based Mompreneur Networking Group Inc., told the Globe and Mail.

The group offers training and resources to women who have started or want to start a home-based business, and also publishes a free magazine called The Mompreneur.

Women entrepreneurs as employees and business owners

Women entrepreneurs should, and do, keep their day-jobs when starting up their new businesses.

Thanks Kristen of Re:inventioninc. blog, Babson College released a report with all the details.

Undoubtedly, I am a speed-reader, and can jot down all the main points I want from a report and move on at rapid rates...but I couldn't help but highlight so many interesting facts & figures of this report, I'm actually printing out myself a copy right now; so I can refer to it often.

My main point is this:

I highly recommend all women entrepreneurs to keep their day-job, get a part-time job, or get-work-for-hire, while their starting out. Unless, of course you have the financial resources and capitol to keep your paycheck for your living expenses, health insurance, etc. But, even if your financially secure for 1-3 years...for your health and well-being, I still recommend the role of "contractor" or "employee" for at least 25% of your work-hours.

And, here's a few reasons why:

1. 67 percent of women-led businesses are home-based, therefore--you need to get out!

2. I see clients driving themselves crazy eagerly seeking their clients, for one single buck, that they lose credibility in the process. They begin to sell their business services and products at reduced prices; giving less value to their work and expertise. Not cool!

You deserve all your rates and more! Remember: You are the Expert, seeking clients to hire you and/or purchase your products.

3. I even recommended to clients to get a part-time mall job while they're starting out. Eight-dollars/hour is better than nothing.

It's good for your health, less stress (at least you're bring some money in), and I actually have clients building their clientèle in their obvious part-time jobs to the shoppers:

"You look highly qualified for this position"...turns into, "oh, this is just for fun, my "real" business is..."..."I actually get clients from this fun-break for me..."

4. It keeps you focused on your business better.

How?

When you're married to your business start-up, doing it day and night, you lose focus, passion, you get distracted finding other ways to make money, etc.

Since you'll need better time management skills to focus on your employment and business, you start to work more wisely and not just hard.

*Many* times I see women entrepreneurs succeeding to new levels--then, they keep their part-time job...literally for fun!

Don't believe me!? I'll start collecting case studies of my clients and share their experiences, given their permission, of course.

5. I know of at least one case off the top of my head:

A new part-time turned full-time job made this entrepreneur so successful, that he [yes, male entrepreneurs listen to me too ;-) ] found his best qualities, skills, talents and experiences. He re-focused his business which was "almost" totally different then his first business start-up. Viola! It's worth it.

Still think its not worth holding dual-positions...share you're thoughts below.

Are you a Body Bath Junky?

Well, I've never been a Home-Body-Bath Chick...but, truth be told: it's time to pay attention!

I always loved spas, facials, etc. but, I'd rather have others pamper me. Even routine waxing is pleasurable for me! But, since motherhood took over my schedule, I do *not* get out as much as if ever.

Anyways, I've been paying close attention this past year with my new drug therapy. I'm extremely dehydrated all the time, and I drink 8-12 glasses of water a day! My skin has aged greatly; and my fatigued has really done my skin in.

Why I'm finally on way to WordPress:

Plugins! Great search engine optimization tools, traffic generating widgets, etc.
Built-in testing and tracking.
Built-in Trackbacks. While haloscan has been good, I never remember to go to another site; I have comments on blogger and in haloscan--and I'm just missing readers and comments- yucko!
Categories. Yes, Blogger has the Labels, but...
Many more templates and customization with multiple columns on either side...yes, yes, blogger can too--but it doesn't have the Plugins. Oh....I can't wait for the Plugins.
I feel like I'm graduating from beginner blogger to intermediate. We all need a little pat on the back--not to offend advanced blogger users...this is my personal statement.
While I can host my blogger on my website, I never did--and since I love WP's Plugins so much...I'm finally doing it now.

You do not have to move to WP for any of the following reasons. This blog is also my personal log...I like to see my progress; such as I have 2-more minutes and Dora Dominoes are ready on the floor for me.

Mompreneur networking styles #6

In venturing back online, I'm reconnecting with many great mompreneurs...and it was so refreshing to share a brainstorming-business update with my dear colleague and friend Stacey Kannenberg from Cedar Valley Publishing.

Stacey is the amazing author, publisher of Let's Get Ready for Kindergarten & 1st grade...you'll see my very detailed review there.

Anyways, we laughed, shared my girls--as they said "how cool--you're the maker to Mrs. Good & the Cedar Valley Kids!".

We were both washing dishes, and yet we got soooo much work done!

We laughed--oh yeah, I already mentioned that.

We empowered one another with our less-than-quick exciting new news; and we're psyched, pumped and ultra-driven as we continue to advance both of our individual business missions and goals, and our similar missions as women entrepreneurs, mompreneurs, authors, creative beings, mothers of girls...and so much more!

This report they feature 18 women entrepreneurs who left corporate America to run their own businesses. Most of these women run high-tech or life science companies. Only 2 left to make more money, but the others all wanted to own their own entreprises.

27. Empowering Women Column accepted!

Empowering women entreprenurs in Toledo--right to their door step.

Yes, it's official! They got my picture, have a line-up of articles and my "Empowering Women" column will debut this Sunday, February 11, 2007.

Toledo Free Press has a distribution of 180,000, and 400,000 readership--the largest newspaper in circulation in NorthWest Ohio!

Just one step closer to becoming a syndicated columnist...woo hoo!

I'm stunned really...Having been in hiatus for nearly a year, and in less than one month, so many incredible things have been happening--mainly to my return to this blog! But, this column--now--wow--another far-off dream coming true.

TFP is truly a cutting-edge newspaper, seeing phenomenal success editorially and financially, so it has national media watching over all the time. TFP is seen as a rare Success Story and incredible case study for the growth of Free Presses throughout the country.

It didn't hit me until Mommy shared that TFP's circulation in 3-times my hometown newspaper of Meriden, CT and readership practicaly 3-times the population of our home-capital of Hartford.

Wowser--what an opportunity!

I get to do what I love, very easily, and painlessly. I'll be spreading inspiration and empowerment for women in Toledo, which is exactly in line with TFP's 'glass-half-full' type-reporting. I'll spice up the column with do-able challenges that I promise to do along with you too.

So, again...my blogs and yours should stay.

Shannon Cherry of Mommy, Inc. offers an incredible resource blog! A mom of twin girls--was ready to call it quits (for her blog) and "ring"...a call from Entrepreneur Magazine asked if they can feature her in the May Edition. Wowser...Congrats Shannon!

Shannon has so many great resources, I can't keep up...but, as I was reading around I listened to her great WildWE podcast interview at the same time.

I feel as if there's a whole new community of bloggers after one-year being offline.

And, why would anyone else want to listen/read from you beyond your family and friends?
What do you have to offer others?

I love the blogosphere, becuase it's a cross-learning experience--I learn, you learn, we all learn together.

23. The "PIN" to getting paid by Google Adsense

Wendy of EMomsatMom Blog made this great tip about grabbing your PIN to get paid your first Google Adsense check.

My experience was somewhat similar:

1. I reached the $100 marked this past Fall, and didn't get my coveted check via postal mail that particular month.

2. Google sent some notices via email saying they'd turn my adsense ads to PSAs if I didn't do something. I ignored at least a couple of the emails.

3. At least 1-2 months past, and I wanted my check. I logged into My Account, watched my stats, but never noticed the big yellow box alerting me to do the "Required Actions" to get paid...which was to login my PIN. So, I requested another PIN.

4. Then, I guess I requested another PIN, there's a maximum 2 requests.

5. Finally a final alert said they'd turn my ads to PSAs, so I got serious. No more waiting; I emailed customer service, they asked me so security issues, and viola--I got my 3rd PIN.

They said they sent the PIN-postcard many months ago...I did remember once seeing a pretty Google postcard but scrapped it as junkmail. I apologized and promised to keep my eye-out.

Don't be too anxious they shared as it'll take 2-3 weeks.

I impatiently waited and finally did received my PIN postcard. Then, the waiting began again...for the month to turn around to get an updated payment amount--now, that's worth the wait.

When I finally got the check--it was worth framing!

22. Celebrating American Heart Month

Since 1963 Congress has required the president to proclaim February "American Heart Month"

American Heart Association has their Go Red for Women Campaign.

Women's Health Mag posted these facts:
Fact: Cardiovascular disease kills more women over 25 than all cancers combined.
Fact: Young women who have heart attacks are twice as likely to die from them as men are.
Fact: You can protect yourself — and you should start right now.

So, they created a cute, fun-read 8 Healthy Steps to a Healthy Heart here.

So, how's your mom?

My entire mom's side has high-blood pressure & hypertension; so this topic is truly dear to my heart.

20. Affiliate Marketing - Mastering it together- Do this now!

Side note: Amazingly, I'm on the road, taking this 30 Day Blog Challenge seriously, that I have unfinished drafted posts in my queue because I have to add "one more thing".

I definitely need ta cut out that 1-more thing, and make quicker posts to flesh out all my thoughts and projects. Read the results below. The less I do, the better my results!

A. In Carrie Lauth's Keep Things Simple post, she recommends doing One of these Two things a day, from Allan Gardyne at Associate Marketing on Jan. 25th.

1. Add an article to your website.
2. Get a link to your site.

I've taken both their advice very seriously.

B. Sign-up for Allan's ezine here. He gave his subscribers a powerful free gift "77 Ways to get Traffic Nearly Free" last week. And, I just noticed it's his free gift for signing-up for his newsletter now. So, no excuse--go now!

Take advantage of this incredible Affiliate Program tutorial while your there.

My goals in coming back online was this 30 day Blog challenge and just being able to reconnect with online women entrepreneurs, as well as meet many new ones.

I'm doing at least the top 2 things and repeating it over and over, and my blog readership, ezine subscription base, and blog comments and community as grown dramatically in 3 of my major blogs--and 1 defunct one...oh, and I'm getting $ too.

19. Go "Wow" right now?

Do women entrepreneurs need the "wow" of Microsoft's Vista operating system now?

My short is answer: No.

After numerous reviews, NPR, and online, I'll just wait. MS will cash in on the bulk orders of major companies and corporations. Bill Gates didn't become rich for being stupid...he's not expecting great sales for personal computer upgrade sales. So, don't do it.

There's ton of coverage for the much anticipated Microsoft upgrade, I can't even read them all--for example: here (this is the funniest. "a picture says a thousand words), here and here--but I heard it a great NPR review last week on our road and there's no way we're going to get it now.

The reviewer's #1 great new feature was voice over capability--though we can do it now (not as a built in feature, but I have it now)...so to pay $200 for an upgrade..no way.

Here's a great review of Vista's audio capabilities.

Remember, I have partial paralysis of my hands and MDs recommend that I should try voice-over, though they themselves never tried it. Since it takes time to "train" the audio features to recognize your voice, I'm too impatient now.

But, with a new PC--I'm always excited to try out all the new gadgets...so I'll just wait'til my next computer; which will probably be next year.

17. What's your Niche?

Do you own your niche?

John Jantsch of Duct Tape Marketing shared in his post If Gap Needs a Niche -- one of the largest retailers in this world, than how will us small businesses/women entrepreneurs hold our own?

The internet helps us focus greatly in carving our own loyal followers...but who are they?

You can't commit yourself to building a product or developing your little spot on the WWW without doing your market research first.

Undoubtedly, I'd say the one place that put me and my brand of "women's empowerment" and focusing on "women entrepeneurs" is my association with EzineArticles.com. 16. Keeping our hearts Red today and always

Heart disease is the #1 killer of women; so wear Red proudly and donate to the cause of Preventing Heart Disease for women.

I got the news yesterday from That's Fit blog, and the Mississippi Hospital Assoc.

So, here in Connecticut--the Groundhog found its shadow, and we got a dusting of snow--so while we're planning a relaxing movie night, we're dressing warm right here at home with red highlighting our pjs.

Obviously--we, especially at-home women entrepreneurs NEED to fit in some healthy exercise, and healthy diet and regular check-ups.

At the very least, take time today to reassess your health, your heart and how red it is on the inside--good, healthy blood flow. Then, we'll work together to maintain our healthy lifestyle, K?

14. Google Reader & Google Talk...VOIP?

Google is just out of this world! Here's a quick review of Google Reader and Google Talk...women entrepreneurs and moms can gain by signing up now!

Just about every day I'm online, there's something new that I learn or some new way I get connected with Google. For example, this weekend all my Blogger accounts were quickly and easily converted to the new Blogger version via my Google/Gmail account.

And, just now I was introduced to Google Reader via Paul Allen in his (the lesser) blog.

While I was attempting to try out the "Share" feature he was highlighting, I couldn't pass on this incredible news:

VOIP News reported "Google's VOIP Strategy". Its catchy opening paragraph is:
Is Google getting set to compete with the telcos – or maybe change voice communication forever? It’s starting to look that way.

This article immediately caught my eye, becuase I just used for the very first time Google Talk one-half hour prior to finding this report with my cousin!

Talk about timing!

Anyways, we discussed how I loved the professional-look, feel and simplicity of Google Talk's program compared to other free IM programs available and wildly used.

Google is always on the look out to tap into the needs and services of internet business owners/marketers as well as regular moms socializing and researching the net for their own personal use--and a successful online women entrepreneur will learn to utilize their services both for their personal and business needs.

BTW: regarding the "Ponn's Shared Items" feature of Google Reader, I really like this becuase it will search all the sites I like and need, both personally and professionally. Therefore, if I "star" them for you to see, a personal bond continues to be fostered between us since you'll see what I'm reading for fun and for business.

13. The most beautiful things...

As W.E. (women entrepreneurs) rush around in our daily lives; how often do we notice the most beautiful things in this world?

Who defines what are the most beautiful things in this world anyways?

Mom always said "Beauty lies in the hands of the beholder"...oh, so true.

Then, last night I shared a wonderful cry with my aunt. We shared some new discoveries within ourselves this past year. We shared were in essence "defining how we feel the most beautiful things in this world truly are.

Then, we shared a huge warm good night's hug and kiss and I said "yeah, yeah...so you were right all along" (in my oh-so-sacrastic-tone) .

We laughed hard as she pat me on the back to get some shut eye.

Then, I woke up this morning and went to another bathroom.There held these wonderful words:

The most beautiful things in this world are not seen or touched.

They are felt by the heart.

Although I thought I learned the meaning of life after my near-death car accident...I didn't realize that discovering and living with a brain disorder would slow me down even more.

I continue to learn a lot about humility, rest and relaxation, patience and learning to "let go and give in" to the moment.

But, most recently, I learned to appreciate living with my husband and girls...and not to just appreciate having them in my life.

I learned that there is some truth to my six-year olds' belief that every girl is a princess and every mommy is a Queen. While I taught her that, I always walked with a sense of respect and leadership in my household that I rarely relished in the pampering those titles bring...such as sitting down to watch a movie with them, laughing along with them, sleeping late with them, and just get dirty while playing along with them.

While all my family and friends would say I've always done this~~living in the moment with my girls~~I know I needed to improve in the area of resting and relaxing with them.

I learned...it's about Me! What I need to do regardless what others say or think.

So, fell with your heart and live for the most beautiful things in your life!

12.Do you support health insurance overhaul?

According to Women Impacting Public Policy (WIPP), a bi-partisan women's business group, their survey showed that:

A majority of women entrepreneurs believe that businesses should not be the main provider of coverage. And, that W.E. (women entrepreneurs) should be able to shop for our best policies which would help reduce the large numbers of uninsured and under-insured Americans.

This is what I found as WIPP's Policy Statement regarding this issue:

Health Care
The Health Care Choice Act (H.R. 2355)
H.R. 2355, The Health Care Choice Act, sponsored by Representative John Shadegg (R-AZ), aims to bring down the cost of health insurance by allowing both small businesses and employees to compare individual insurance plans across state lines for the best price and choose a plan that best fits their medical needs.

No doubt we have to do something about our health care system, and since we're frugal consumers, I can't agree more! Time to empower public policy to help women entrepreneurs.

11. Future of Small Business-women, immigrants & boomers

An excellent summary of Intuit Future of Small Business report was written by Jeff Cornwall of the Entrepreneurial Mind blog, click here to read.

Cornwall encourages everyone to read the report that he links to in his blog post. While I can't read the report right now, here are a few of my thoughts of Cornwall's summary:

We are all women entrepreneurs or have the entrepreneurial mind-set--meaning you can be working a 40-hour work week, but make money on the side with your hobbies or talents and dream of making money with what you love most. Or you just enjoy making extra cash for your past-times.

Cornwall describes the un-retired as the boomers turning to self-employment because they're seeking personal fullfilment rather than money as the primary reason to turn to entrepreneurship. [This would be the 65+ age group].

Since baby boomers make up births between 1946 - 1964, un-retirees are older than the baby boomers...and many of the moms I cater too are to moms in this age-group with teens or college-aged kids who are self-sufficient, therefore giving you more freedom to seek more education and/or learn new ways to make a buck.

Many of us are immigrants or born to them...and we have self-employment ingrained in us as the "American Dream".

Undoubtedly, entrepreneurial life demands a certain kind of "stick-to-it-iveness", patience, creativity, and good mentors.

We need to understand that Entrepreneur Education can not be strictly taught it class, becuase the life-lessons to empathize with trial and errors, risk and rewards, patience and pay-offs and more...MUST be felt; and read.

With the rise of the internet, there are opportunities for all of us, and start-up costs are minimal.

10. A Queen's Castle

When's the last time you got your hands dirty and started to make a good wholesome, fun-loving sand castle?

I actually can't remember the last time when my girls asked me to join in the fun yesterday.

Come on Mama...we're in Florida!

So I got arm-deep into the sand and got equally as dirty as they did, as we built a castle for their Queen ~ Me...Mama. How sweet, huh?

Anyways, as I check email for the first time, I got this update:

"The Queen's blowing up her castle!"...What? Me? No, never!

And, then I continued to read for its meaning:

Alexandria Brown, a.k.a. "The Ezine Queen" is blowing up her
website on January 31 in order to make room for a better, more
streamlined network of sites.

Wow...all my online colleagues, have, are and in the process of revamping, rebuilding and restructing their websites...including yours truly! [I'll keep you updated of the online businesses I recommend too]

7. Forgiveness

Forgiveness

When life akes its toll on your mind, body and soul and others, by default, feel abandoned – the only appropriate words to shared are "I'm Sorry".

When absence, lack of follow-up and your inability to respond in a timely fashion shows your imperfections; rise to the occasion, now, and say "I'm Sorry".

When you're blessed with life, though baring new limitations, and shame holds you back; let inner-strength guide you to confidently admit to others, "I'm Sorry".

When you know time lapsed too long for excuses to be acceptable and you know in your heart that some may still recall your "special bond" – dare to stand up and repeat "I'm Sorry".

When you know perceptions and misunderstandings may have occurred and feelings possibly hurt; the only last words can be are "Will you forgive me?"

As humans, we are all susceptible to mistakes, such as silent absences. It takes strength to remain humble, accept fault, have faith and attempt to continue a dialogue.

I'm choosing to say "I'm sorry if I may have hurt you, please forgive me".

[Ponn's thoughts: Becuase I was out of commission, for a great long time, I felt the need to apologize for missing so much of my family and friends' lives...both good and bad events. It happens to all of us, but unless we care for ourselves, we'll never be able to attend future good and bad events.]

3. Empowering Women Blog goals

Throughout my illness and battle with my brain disorder, I received scores of email thanking me for my inspiration, motivation and empowerment--regardless of the odds against me.

Prior to battling my partial paralysis, I headed (& homeschooled) my family of 3 little girls for nearly a year with my husband overseas.

While I made certain choices out of the norm, and many times seen as fighting against my own recovery; I always had my faith, husband, family, friends and community--you-- allowing me to live regardless of our differences.

Many times I only had faith, my hubby & girls...but that made us all individually & collectively stronger.

I found a poet inside! A creative voice, I never heard or felt before. I dictated random and complete thoughts for many months, and now I'm ready to let my fingers let my secret voice speak up once and for all--regardless of any pains.

I feel more empowered by overcoming my difficulities and thank God everyday that my prognosis is hopeful and bright!

I'll be using this blog to share my articles, thoughts, poetry and reviews (of course) so we can walk this journey of life together.

Carrie Lauth of Blah, Blah, Blog set this 30 post, 30 day challenge back on January 5th.
Compensating for major health problems, partial paralysis of my hands and feet, my online presence was scarce for nearly a year. So, I need this challenge--a big push--really!

I wholeheartedly agree with her reasonings to start this challenge, "..it's not because I don't have anything to say, but rather because I have so much to say that I get overwhelmed.
I guess it's the (gasp!) perfectionist in me." Here, here...my dear!

And, then--Taa Daa! She posted her Focus, Focus, Focus
to reiterate exactly what's going on in my head.

Business Women are going absolutely WILD!!! Talk about a Wild Woman! Each day more and more women are going shamelessly wild and are proud of it. Business women are twice as wild as business men. It's true!

Women business owners are starting new businesses at twice the rate of male owned firms in the United States. Women now make up forty-one percent of the individuals with a net worth of $500,000 or more. Woman owned businesses provide jobs for 18.5 million people and generate sales of nearly $2.38 trillion annually! [Ponn: here! here!]

Female entrepreneurs are taking the economy by storm. Not only do they own approximately 9.1 million small businesses in the United States, but they are also starting them at twice the rate of their male counterparts. It is true, women business owners are going wild!

They allow for family and personal growth, along with increased business and professional growth.

Home-based women business owners are technologically savvy. In fact, home-based women-owned businesses are just as technologically savvy as other businesses. Over half (56%) have at least one computer and nearly four in ten (39%) own more than one. Two-thirds (66%) have a computer fax/modem, and 55% use a cell phone. [Ponn: And, most people still think of men when you think of engineers, computers, technology, etc. The majority of my colleagues and friends...all the wives are much more technologically-advanced then their husbands...except for my case . ]

Women also tend to take advantage of technology to allow for more flexible work time and space. Telecommuting and virtual office tools are receiving increased popularity with women business owners. Women business owners appear to be more open to these advanced technological tools than male business owners.

The C & S Patient Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to improving the experiences and outcomes of Chiari and Syringomyelia patients through education, awareness and research. Their goal, quite simply, is to Conquer Chiari.

Chiari (also known as Arnold Chiari Malformation or ACM) is an extremely rare brain disorder in which part of the brain (specifically the cerebral tonsil) descends out of the skull into the spinal cord, in which 0.1% (one-tenth of a percent) of the general population is diagnosed with Chiari.

Being an Empowered Woman means it's OKAY to feel bad! We can feel anger, sad, upset, hurt, betrayed, and even alone. While you probably know this already...can you honestly tell me you don't feel guilt, worry or fear when these "bad" feelings pop up every now and then?!

Well, I did!

Women (myself included) have this awful ability to take the martyr's role, that we have to feel chipper, sweet, kind-hearted, blah, blah, blah..."No one can see me like this" baloney!

Take away the guilt, and allow yourself to be a woman...one with needs, such as having realistic expectations, wanting happiness, trying to live a calm and sane life, and wanting a life filled with joy and appreciation by your loved ones.

Don't put everyone's feelings ahead of yourself so that you don't allow yourself to feel 'poopy' once in awhile.

While this may sound crazy...I don't think I felt "scared" before until after my accident. I actually wasn't scared of possibly facing death, nor my therapy...I was scared during the 7 weeks of medical tests to figure out what we're going to do with my dangling cerebral tonsil.

If you don't know, Arnold Chiari Malformation (ACM), the brain disorder I was diagnosed with after the accident, is a condition where a part of my brain is falling out of my skull into my spinal cord. Truly disgusting and scary stuff...no doubt.

But none of that scared me...not even my claustrophobic-ridden MRI tests specifically for ACM patients.

Ever hear the horror stories of getting a MRI? Well...mine is worse. I actually have to put on a head gear and a bite plate to keep me more still...as if there's anywhere I can run to if I started to freak out.

Anyways, I actually said the words to my husband one night after I said the night's prayers with my girls, "I'm scared". "Of what?" he asked.

My reply, "I do not know. Not the tests. Not surgery. Not my odds against me...maybe it's the reality that I will not always be here to be a mom for our girls...or your wife raising them. Maybe...I'm angry at myself, because I'm letting life control me, and I'm wasting this precious time...right now...that I have with you...maybe you and all who love me (family, friends, and My Power Network) are right. It's time for Ponn!"

As I recall this conversation, I'm crying and sniffing at the computer. My husband is watching me right now as it’s early morning and the girls aren't up yet. He just asked, "What's wrong!?".

My reply, "I'm just happy to be here." With one big wipe of my nose, I caught a glance, and now I feel ready to start my day with my family.

By the way, in addition to writing as a form of therapy, I'm a big crybaby. I've always been and always will be.

I cry for happy stuff, beautiful stuff, but never the bad stuff. So the next time I'm bad or sad, I promise to be empowered enough to let my guard down and cry.

Our Women's Empowerment Outreach Campaign has been a great hit so far! So, I decided to introduce my Top 10 Women Entrepreneurs' Empowerment Tips, as it seems that Kirsten really did shut-down her blog, and I'm off for some much needed family fun as my baby bro gets married next Saturday. Family from around the world are scheduled to pop in and out during the next 2-weeks to my beloved hometown Meriden, CT and our lovely vacation hotspot Newport, RI. My girls and I were the first to arrive, and the guests of honor showed up last night. But, MY guests of honor inlcude my dear hubby & eldest baby girl who is 5 years old today, as they've been traveling around the world these past 3 months. This has been longest time we've ever been apart. I assure you...my personal empowerment was tested, big-time! So, enjoy the tips and the rest of June!

1.. Enlightenment - Have Faith.
In a Woman's Entrepreneur Success Survey I conducted, the #1 category chosen out of 44 to define "Success" was "Faith". It can be assumed that accountability to God, or a higher purpose, helps you work with strong values, ethics and morals; based on charity, kindness, compassion, and the genuine passion to help others. Also, having faith may help you learn from your failures quicker, have less fear, and take more educated risks, because every experience (good or bad) is one step closer to goal attainment for all the right reasons.

2.. Empowerment of Self - The Ability to Chose.
Empowerment is about learning there are choices, in which you have the right to be the
healthiest and happiest person you can be today. One critical choice in the self-empowerment process is to enter into self-discovery process that leads to self-acceptance and results in self-love. You will reach your personal and business's greatest potential, once you master this equation: Self-Love = Self-Discovery + Self-Acceptance.

3.. Exercise Balance with Your Family.
Since your family gives you the most personal fulfillment, it is importantto always prioritize your business accordingly. Choose to live life with your family, not because of, or for them by making excuses to yourself, such as "work comes first". After almost facing death, I learned that I must always: Work Wisely + Play Plenty = Rest Reassured.

4.. The Enterprise Must Include the Power of Power Networks.
As a conductor of your own enterprise, you can not see yourself as a one-woman-show. You must choose to utilize the power people in your life, by asking for help when you need it, and effectively delegating in order tocapitalize on your strengths and that of your power network. When certain experts are not represented in your power network, you must actively seek advisors or mentors and develop a team of specialists, so the benefits are received by everyone involved in the power network - the true Power of Power Networks.

5.. Experience Success through Principles That Work.
Rather than re-invent the success cycle; read, study and try different principles proven to have worked in the numerous business-improvement resources available to you. Choose to learn something(S) new every single day.

Action = 5 A's: Acquisition, Affirmative Attitude, Accountability, Asking, and Accomplish.

Always chose to be a specialist at something...not a generalist in everything. Dare to be Your Best Self! [Beware: Once you start succeeding at what you do, you WILL have competition. At which time, it's critical to build alliances...not enemies.]

7.. Establish Systems to Maximize Time.
You must establish as many systems as possible (i.e., priority planning, to do's, office hours, meeting days, etc.) to be time-efficient. Streamline all your business protocols for maximum productivity that includes but not limited to your daily, weekly, monthly and annual duties and responsibilities.

8.. Expand Your Marketing Reach.
Diversify your online and offline marketing portfolio. Always be open to try something new, different and creative, but never stop at a one-time opportunity. Repetitive efforts are rewarded the most. Areas include: website, blog, article submission, local and internet press release campaign, venture partnerships, link exchanges, charity sponsorships, public speaking, radio interviews, teleseminars, volunteerism, search engine optimization/marketing, building power networks, and hosting local events.

9.. Experiment for a Positive Bottom Line.
For every new formula, system, or marketing campaign you try, you must always test and track your results. Stay accountable to your bottom-line by being patient enough to see results and persistent enough to gain the most from your efforts. Don’t give up too easily, and don’t let dead-weight pull you down. Always be cost-conscious.

10.. Envisioning Goes beyond Goal Setting.
Envisioning your goals means being able to apply all your senses to the moment when your goal is achieved. Basically, you need to touch, taste, smell, feel, and hear your goal already accomplished, so that moment becomes so vivid in your mind, that you will become happy and empowered right now.Your positive focus will fill your workdays with fun, and you'll always be proud of your efforts rather than disappointed with your unfinished tasks. Coming from a Type-A personality, this is easier said than done; but having just written this down, I'm now accountable to you. Now, I challenge you to stay empowered and keep our power network alive!

Actually, when I was the youngest public health official in the country, the moment I started listening to my heart and acting according to my faith (not by taking orders I "knew" they were wrong), I gained loyalty, trust, honor and faith in me and my work. At this moment I "knew" I had to leave the workforce, and have been an Enlightened Woman Entrepreneur ever since.

Memorial Day Empowerment Message for All.

Memorial Day, a Day of Remembrance, Are Filipino American veterans honored for their service 60 years too late?

Toledo, Ohio (May 30, 2005) - Memorial Day has always been a day of remembrance for many Asian Pacific Americans, especially Filipino American veterans. After nearly 60 years, approximately 9,000 Filipino American veterans are finally honored as United States Veterans, for having agreed to fight as "one" nation during World War II.

Filipino American veterans have proudly remembered those who served the United States as "one" nation on Memorial Day, even though they were not yet recognized. It wasn't until December 30, 2003 that Filipino American veterans of World War II were afforded full United States veteran benefits promised to them.

When President Roosevelt issued Military Order No. 1 on July 26, 1941, nearly 200,000 Filipinos responded, as they were promised that when then become U.S. citizens, they would have the same benefits given to all other U.S. veterans. The Department of Veteran Affairs estimates that as many as 9,000 Filipino veterans living in the United States who are citizens or lawfully admitted for permanent residence may be eligible for some of the expanded benefits.

Ponn M. Sabra, MPH, Women's Empowerment Author, diverts her message away from women entrepreneurs today on Memorial Day to honor her late grandfather Quintin A. Paredes, Geodetic, Aeronautical Engineer, and a proud Filipino American Veteran of World War II who died on May 3, 2003, without the full benefits as a U.S. Veteran.

Ponn states, that "I want to empower everyone today, to honor all veterans and present Armed Forces who are fighting for the "cause of 'one' nation under God" and to be conscientious that men and women are dying everyday with and without the benefits or official titles granted by the United States government. Brave men and women have been fighting for years misled and misguided by the American government; yet proudly fight for the cause of what they believe to be "freedom". My grandfather died 7 months short of receiving his benefits, which he and many brave veterans fought their whole lives to receive, because each one of them believed in the promises of the President of their times. It took nearly 60 years for the U.S. Congress to ratify President Roosevelt's promise, and most of these Filipino veterans immigrated to the U.S. by their own means, fought their whole lives to be heard, and are now dead. This struggle for VA benefits is not specific to World War II, as every war has its unsupported or unheard heros. Grandpa entered the U.S. Army of the Far East when he was 20 years old, and still never saw benefits. As a citizen of the United States, I’m going to remember and contemplate on all the promises that have been made to our veterans and those fighting today in this global war on terror. Please join me."

According to the Marine Corps celebration report of the 2005 Theme "Liberty and Freedom for all" for Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, "Through our nation's history Asian Pacific Americans have made significant contributions through military service. In the Civil War, World War I, World War II, Korea, Vietnam, the Gulf War and the current global was on terrorism, Asian Pacific Americans served and sacrificed for our nation's liberty and freedom".

Small Business Says Revenue and Retention Most Important Issues

The Interland Spring 2005 Business Barometer revealed that two out of three business leaders clearly believe that business Web sites influence overall sales, both on- and off-line. In addition, 94 percent say their businesses have Internet access, and seven out of 10 cite email as very or somewhat critical to their business.

Naming their their top three 2005 business priorities:
- 79 percent of business leaders name revenue growth
- 70 percent customer retention
- 46 percent expense reduction

The top three immediate threats to the success of small and medium-sized U.S. businesses were reported as:
- rising inflation (44 percent)
- the current trade deficit and the collapse of the dollar's value (40 percent)
- energy and other supply shortages (40 percent)

The group identified the top three greatest strengths of U.S. businesses as:
- technological lead and strong productivity (49 percent)
- democratic government (46 percent)
- flexible economy and labor force (39 percent)

Joel Kocher, CEO and Chairman of Interland, says "This study shows that small and medium-sized businesses that are using the Internet to market their services and offerings are getting a clear return in top-line revenues for their investment."

70 percent said e-mail is critical to their business, with 72 percent communicating with existing customers, 56 percent with partners and business associates, 53 percent with potential buyers, 36 percent with employees, 33 percent to get and request bids, and only 14 percent said they don't use e-mail in their business.

Other important business tools include:

USA Today's article states that "Longaberger's GOP gifts have continued this year; she gave $25,000 to the Republican National Committee in late March.
Asked if her gifts were a factor in this week's appointment, White House spokeswoman Erin Healy said: "We base personnel decisions on the most qualified person." Longaberger declined comment."...Why are we feeling guilty?
Columbus Business First, Longaberger picked for national women's biz council : Longaberger "won't disclose its revenue levels for last year."...What's up with that? Could've Longaberger experienced an even greater dip in sales that Carlson companies after 9/11? Since they're not a billion-dollar company yet...I highly doubt it. So who cares what your #s are?

Why decline the turth?

Now, I don't want to be too critical of someone I'd love to build a power network during her next 3-year term...I learned that whenever I chose to "decline" to answer, I lost trust, honor, and respect from those below me and alongside me.

While I aligned "well" with my bosses and advisors...I risked months of pain and suffering with those who I had to work with on a daily basis...my team of employees. It out-right stunk, becuase I had to "earn" their trust, honor and respect...and it's VERY hard to do when I started off with silence.

My staff did NOT trust, honor or respect what I had to say...AND it did NOT matter that my silence was in the department's best interest...by "declining to comment", the worse case scenario was always assumed.

What I learned is that when I shared the turth, and shared my own story (not in a defensive or matter-of-fact arrogant way)...no matter what the answer was...I landed on higher ground.

It's how you tell the story and share the answer that matters. I believe that honesty even during controversial times, IS a true test to leadership, becuase trust, honor and respect lays the foundation rather than deceit, doubt or "behind the scenes--fishy business" going on.

I think honesty is a bigger test to a Power Woman, then one's money, linage, or political clout. It's unfortunate that all these articles (and I read at least 2 more) assumes that Ms. Longaberger's money, linage and political savvy helped her with her present appointment.

As she has HUGE shoes to fit, following Marilyn Carlson Nelson's dramatic successes...TIME will only show if her honesty and women entrepreneurialship skills (leadership, business savvy, etc.) catapults her to the role Power Woman at National Women's Business Council (NWBC).

As an ultra-optimist, I have faith in your abilities Ms. Longaberger...but to most doubting-Tom's/Tanya's, sounds like you're off to an unfortunate start.
